How to compare flight prices without the traps

The cheapest headline fare isn’t always the cheapest journey.

Build a like-for-like fare comparison

Start with the same travel dates, passenger ages, and airports, then add baggage, seat selection, and any unavoidable payment charges. An economy fare may include very different benefits from another economy fare. Check the total for everyone in the booking rather than multiplying the cheapest advertised single seat. Children’s fares and taxes vary; the calculator’s child factor is an approximation, not an airline rule.

Put a value on time and protection

Compare layover duration, overnight stops, terminal changes, and airport transfers. A self-transfer on separate tickets can leave you responsible if the first flight is late. Read the operating carrier and ticket conditions, especially for baggage through-checking and schedule changes. If an itinerary needs a transit visa or an overnight hotel, those costs can erase the apparent saving.

Use estimates to shortlist, quotes to decide

There is no guaranteed cheapest weekday or universal ideal booking window. Set a budget, compare reasonable alternatives, and use the actual final fare to decide. Until a flight-data provider is connected, TripCost Pro uses route distance and broad seasonality, not observed market averages. Even a connected provider would return sampled offers rather than a promise of availability when you book.
