DESTINATION GUIDE
How much does a trip to Bali really cost?
Beyond the infinity pools: a practical guide to planning your island budget.
Start with your island itinerary
Bali is one island, but transport can make it feel like several destinations. A week split between Ubud and the coast generally needs fewer long transfers than a plan that also includes the north, east, and neighboring islands. Pick two bases before pricing your accommodation. A low room rate far from your daily activities can disappear into taxi costs.
Build a realistic daily budget
Local warungs and simple guesthouses are a different spending category from beach clubs and private villas. Our calculator uses a lower everyday-cost multiplier for Bali, but beachfront resort areas can cost substantially more. Include drinking water, laundry, airport transfers, and the entrance fees for temples or natural attractions. Driver hire is usually priced by vehicle, so ask what hours, fuel, parking, and additional stops are included.
Leave space for the small print
July, August, and the year-end holiday period can lift accommodation prices. Check the full bill for taxes and service charges before comparing stays. Entry rules and tourism levies can change and depend on your passport; verify them with official Indonesian sources rather than treating the calculator’s editable visa allowance as advice. Allow a buffer for weather-related itinerary changes and compare insurance that covers your actual activities.
